Does your family know how to react in case there ever is a fire in your home? Having a planned escape route for you and your family is not only a smart idea, but it might possibly save a life.

There are some simple things you should keep in mind when planning an escape route from your home. Let's look at the things you should keep in mind when creating your escape.

A fire has broken out in your house. Smoke and flames are quickly overtaking all of the rooms. What do you do? At HIPhome, we always like to keep safety in mind.

One of the surest ways you can prepare for the devastation of a home fire is to plan a safe escape route for you and your family. This will ensure that all of the members of your family know exactly how to get out of the house should it ever catch on fire. This is a simple process, but one that should never be left to chance. Educate your family on the plan that is right for your home layout.

Things to Keep in Mind:

  • Make a plan for every level of your home. Make sure that your escape plan takes into account a route of escape for the basement, main floor, and upper floor of your home. This will ensure that, no matter what floor your family is one, there is a route of escape.
  • Make a hard copy of the plan. A plan that is not written down is not a plan. Use your computer to make organized and neat plans that can be viewed and understood by the small children in your family. Laminate this hard copy of your escape route.
  • Mark fire extinguishers and other specifics. Do not just plan the route. Clearly label locations of fire extinguishers and fire blankets throughout the home. This detail could prove to be invaluable to provide access to fire fighting tools you can use during your emergency.
